TBSSB – FAQ’S concerning the CORONAVIRUS

The Club will watch the CDC, WHO, and governmental agencies for guidelines to help us respond to the changing Covid-19 situation. Here are our responses to some questions you may have. Much is uncertain, but hopefully this will help a little.

  1. How will the Club handle it if the pandemic gets worse at one of the resorts to which a trip is planned and the resort is put on lockdown by their management or the local authorities?
    • The exact actions the Club will take will depend on whether this happens before the trip’s cancellation date, after the cancellation date but well before departure, close to departure, or during the trip. The trip committee will keep a close eye on all trips and resort destinations. If it appears to be best for our members/travelers, we will cancel the trip and we will then work hard to get as much refund or credit as possible and then return that to all the travelers on any affected trip.
  2. What will happen if the Club decides that it must cancel a trip due to the pandemic?
    • The trip leaders will notify all the travelers as soon as possible. The Club will then work hard to get as much refund or credit as possible from all the vendors and then return that to all the travelers on any canceled trip.
  3. What will happen if my roommate gets Covid while on the trip?
    • The Trip Leaders will coordinate with the Lodging property and any local officials to determine what is required. Hopefully, the traveler who gets ill has travel insurance that covers such a medical situation since they may have to be quarantined for some time and not be able to depart as scheduled.
  4. What will happen if one of the other travelers on my trip, not my roommate, gets Covid while we are on the trip?
    • The Trip Leaders will coordinate with the Lodging property and any local officials to determine what is required. Hopefully, the traveler who gets ill has travel insurance that covers such a medical situation since they may have to be quarantined for some time and not be able to depart as scheduled
  5. What sort of health safety measures are the resorts implementing?
  6. Is it likely that lift lines will be especially long due to social distancing restrictions implemented by the resort?
    • It is certainly possible that lift line waits could be longer (they are very likely to be physically longer to enable social distancing). But many resorts are also limiting capacity on the mountain which may mitigate the possibility of long lines. Much is still uncertain, so this cannot be known at this time.
  7. Will the Club still have parties on the trips?
    • This will be very dependent on what the pandemic conditions are at the time of the trip at the destination for each trip. The resorts are still working out how they will handle any group gatherings. The Club’s Trip Committee and trip leaders will be working closely with each resort to determine what is possible and safe. We may have to get very creative with how we handle this aspect of our trips this season.
  8. What are the airlines doing to help keep passengers safe from Covid?
  9. Can I get Trip Insurance that covers Covid?
  10. Will the Club require travelers to get a Covid test before traveling?
    • No, we (TBSSB) cannot police nor manage travelers getting tested. While it may be a very good idea, we do not have the right under HIPAA to ask any medical questions including test results. We also think it would be unfair to make such a requirement now since we did not state this as part of the application process upfront. However, although TBSSB can’t require travelers to get a test, many states and airlines may require it. If you have concerns, you should consider discussing it with your physician.

    • Also, please note that Tampa International Airport was offering Rapid Testing for Covid-19 in October. This may be available when you are getting ready to travel. If so, you may want to get a test a couple days before departure. See link below to learn more and to see if the test is still being offered: TPA launches first in the nation COVID-19 testing for all departing and arriving passengers.
  11. Does the state I’m traveling to have any travel restrictions on travelers from my state?
